What Matters Now: Persistence

Wednesday, December 23, 2009 —

Seth Godin recently collaborated with 70 thought leaders including our friend Todd Sattersten with advice for 2010 in the ebook What Matters Now.

23711234-What-Matters-Now-1

This is a fantastic collection of thoughts to consider as we approach 2010.  Each entry in What Matters Now is focused around one word that we should remember in 2010, with an explanation on why and how that word matters to the thought leader that contributed to this project.

As we read this 82 page ebook (which is well worth the read) the one word we felt that was missing is persistence.

Ben Franklin once said, “energy and persistence conquer all things.”  This quote speaks volumes about what we believe is important for 2010.  We have found being persistent with growing our business can be challenging, especially since many organizations are cutting back.  But by continually focusing on our goal of becoming the Promise MarketingSM experts, networking, and strategically planning for tomorrow; we have been able to build our business and, like many people, have hope for the upcoming year.

We hope your business or organization is able to be persistent with your goals for the upcoming year.  After reading this blog post and the What Matters Now ebook, what one word would you suggest organizations think about in 2010?

Top Holiday Marketing Campaigns

Thursday, December 17, 2009 —

The holidays are here and another year will soon be upon us.  The next couple weeks will be filled with many of us taking time off to spend time with family and friends.  We are certainly looking forward to a little time off and were just reminiscing about some of our favorite holiday marketing campaigns and thought this would be a good blog post.

So, here is our top five list of marketing campaigns for the holidays:

1.    Macy’s holiday parade Even though this is held during Thanksgiving, the Macy’s holiday parade kicks off the holiday season for many and is a tradition for many families to watch the parade from home or in New York.  It’s been a tradition for 85 years this year.

2.   Coca Cola polar bears An advertising campaign with polar bears and penguins, this campaign plays on the cute factor.

3.    Hershey’s Kisses jingle bell campaign This is such a simple commercial and brilliant.  The product is the focus with a recognizable holiday song.

4.    Elf Yourself by OfficeMax This is a very fun and clever viral marketing campaign that took off several years ago by our friends at OfficeMax.  It is creative, fun and has all the elements needed for a great viral marketing campaign.

5.    Budweiser Clydesdale holiday campaign The hummable melody, winter snow, and use of the world-renowned Budweiser Clydesdales are a recipe for the warm fuzzies.

Did we miss any of your favorite holiday marketing campaigns?  Please leave a comment with a note if we missed your favorite.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Ready, Set, Go!

It can be difficult to write a story that is still being written.  But an in-progress story can often be more interesting than a completed story. After all, nobody knows how it will end! Our Clear Verve Marketing story is definitely a work-in-progress.

We decided to share our knowledge and our story with you on a more frequent basis through this new Promise Marketing blog.  Watch for weekly information on promise marketing, tips for small business owners, and guest blog posts.

When people meet us for the first time, we often get asked two questions.
1) What is the meaning behind your company name?
2) What is Promise Marketing?

We thought it appropriate to provide you answers to these questions to kick off our blog.

How did you come up with the name Clear Verve?
When Christina started Clear Verve, it made sense to have the company name represent our approach to marketing.  We believe marketing should be clear and jargon-free. Verve is the enthusiastic expression of ideas.  Thus, our company name reflects the dictionary definitions for these two words.

What is Promise Marketing?
It’s a phrase we coined! (That’s why we get to put the SM behind it.) We focus on working with those that sell the promise of future satisfaction in services, experiences, and causes.  Promise marketing can be a lot more challenging than traditional product marketing as services are intangible, can be hard to differentiate, and are often reputation-based.

What gives us Verve?
We are inspired by many things – nature, architecture, other professionals and organizations, reading, learning, as well as business and personal development.

What gives you Verve?
